About the Trainer:
Yoneco Evans designs and facilitates professional development workshops for afterschool practitioners. She has nearly ten years of experience in the areas of youth development, education, and family outreach. She holds a bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Pennsylvania and is completing a certification in family literacy. She is a contributing author in Cognitive Behavioral Interventions for At-Risk Youth: Volume II.

English language learners (ELLs) represent the fastest-growing segment of the school-age population. Attend this training to develop your skills in working with ELLs or children who struggle with academic English skills.

WHAT: A full-day training to learn:
- The stages of language acquisition, the relationship between oral language and literacy, and how programs can support language learning for youth and their families.
- How to create a supportive learning environment and use language-stretching games and learner-centered activities to engage youth and their families.
- Techniques that help build partnerships with school leaders, teachers, district and organization leaders, and communities to make their programs a powerful resource for ELL youth and families.

About the Trainer:
Jennifer Kobrin provides professional development and technical assistance in language and literacy, with a focus on English language learners. She has more than eight years of experience as a teacher, program coordinator, and researcher. She is fluent in Spanish, and has lived in Spain, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. Jennifer received a master’s degree in educational linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania.
