Many youths across our state are struggling with mental health.

In 2022, the Indiana Youth Survey shared that nearly 1 out of 3 kids in 7th-12th grade reported feeling so sad or hopeless for two or more weeks in a row.

So, what can we do?

The National Library of Medicine shares that we all have a role to play to help youth recognize, manage, and learn from difficult emotions by modeling positive mental health practices.

This involves forming good relationships with others, identifying emotions, staying physically healthy, being mindful of social media and technology use, and learning to ask for help.

Access to services matters too! Encourage community organizations, schools, and youth agencies where you live to participate in Riley’s Mental Health Strategies and be trained in Youth Mental Health First Aid.

Lastly, if you or someone you know is currently experiencing thoughts of suicide or a mental health crisis, please call 988 to reach Suicide & Crisis Lifeline and speak with a trained crisis specialist 24/7.
