Recommended Lead Testing
Lead exposure is dangerous for everyone but especially for children who are still growing and developing.
Lead is a naturally occurring toxic metal. It is often found in old homes and buildings.
Lead in the body is unsafe at any level. It can damage the brain, slow growth, and lead to learning problems.
According to the Indiana Department of Health, healthcare providers are required to ask if kids under age six have been tested for lead poisoning and offer the screening. Experts recommend testing at 1- and 2-year checkups.
Contact your local health department or healthcare provider to have your child tested. The state also offers a dashboard to track lead tests and results county-by-county.
