Report Child Abuse and Neglect
Every Indiana adult is a mandated reporter. This means you must take action if you suspect a child is being abused or neglected.
Data from the Indiana Department of Child Services shows there were more than 21,000 child abuse and neglect cases statewide in 2025. Most Children in Need of Services cases are for neglect. Poverty, unstable housing, as well as untreated mental health conditions and substance use disorders can be contributing factors.
Remember, making a call is a request for professional help. It is not an accusation. Call the Indiana Child Abuse and Neglect Hotline at 1-800-800-5556. It is available 24/7, and reports can be made anonymously.
