This JDAI practice guide offers practical steps that all juvenile justice systems can take to implement case processing reforms as a means for safely and equitably reducing the use of juvenile detention. This publication makes the case that with a renewed focus on how cases move through the juvenile justice system, jurisdictions could lower their use of juvenile detention and positively affect racial and ethnic disparities, rearrest and court appearance rates, program participation in detention alternatives and system costs, to name a few.
