Effects and Impact of Domestic Violence On Children

7.4% of children in Indiana, nearly 110,000 children, have experienced seeing or hearing parents or adults slap, hit, kick, punch one another in the home in 2018 through 2019. (Source: National Survey of Children’s Health)

This guide outlines the short-term and long-term effects of domestic violence or abuse on children. In addition, we’ve provided resources you can use to help a child recover, and how to keep the family safe if they are not ready to leave the abuser.
